Edge All In One Reader with Xd and Sdhc

Yes, it has a good price... but I have not even plugged it in yet because I cannot believe the size of the cable. Anyone can save money making a product if you don't actually include a cable! When measure the cable is actually less than 2"... yup that's right... less than 2". The only way to attach this to my pc would be to dangle it from the USB connector. Now I will need to buy USB extensions which does not make the price of the initial product seem like such a deal!Buy Edge All In One Reader with Xd and Sdhc!

Pro Series Compactflash Readers Firewire 800

The card reader I couldn't use as you need a special jack a 9 pin, instead of your regular USB jack. The description was not clear in that it doesn't use a USB type jack.

I was required to pay return shipping even though I ordered it not knowing it wouldn't work for my computer.

A good product I'm sure but be careful when ordering as it won't work with a USB plug or jack.Buy Pro Series Compactflash Readers Firewire 800!

Kingston 9-in-1 USB 2.0 Flash Memory Card Reader FCR-ML+SD/2GB

I bought the card reader because I lost my previous Memory Card Reader, which, incidentally, worked really well but took only regular SD cards.

This package comprises the Kingston Card Reader and the Kingston SD card.

The Kinston Card Reader is the same size as a regular SD Card Reader except that it is a tad thicker since it has to accommodate slots for SD, Mini SD, and Micro SD cards. Both sides of the reader flip open. One side houses the slot for a regular SD card; the other houses a slot for a Mini SD car and a slot for a Micro SD card.

Windows (XP) has no trouble recognizing all three slots as Removable Disk Drives and assigns each one a drive letter. For example, on my computer, the 3 slots show up on My Computer as:

Removable Disk (E:)
Removable Disk (F:)
Removable Disk (G:)

for the SD, Mini SD, and Micro SD slots, respectively.

Function
--------
The SD slot worked flawlessly with the Kingston SD card. I also tested the micro SD slot with a brand new micro SD card and had no problems with it. Windows recognized my brand new cards right off the bat and there was no need to get them formatted first. Nice!

Usability
---------
The reader holds the cards, especially the micro SD card, very tight. There is an ejection slider for each slot for ejecting the card. It requires some effort to push the Micro SD card in and out of the slot because it's a tight fit and because it's so tiny. I think it'll be easier once the slot is broken in.

The lanyard tethers the cap to the main unit so it won't get lost. There's a tiny ring at one end of the lanyard for attaching the unit to a keyring.

Conclusion
----------
The Kingston Card Reader and SD Card work flawlessly. However, do be aware that the card reader is slightly thicker than a dedicated card reader for a Mini or a Micro SD card. So, if you need a card reader for only a particular kind of memory card, a dedicated and more compact card reader might be the way to go. Otherwise, I would highly recommend this.

Kingston USB 2.0 microSD Flash Memory Card Reader FCR-MRB (Black)

I've been attempting to be a satisfied user of this microSD reader for some time now. Despite my best efforts, I am now resorting to writing this review, as there seems to be no escaping the conclusion that this product does not work.

I originally bought one of these as part of Kingston's 8GB mobility kit. It worked fine for about 2 weeks. During this time, I probably swapped my card out of the USB reader into the SD adapter and back, maybe once a day. After about 2 weeks, machines stopped recognizing the card when I was using it with the USB reader. The card itself was still fine. I tried several different machines. I tried reseating the card. I tried to look for dust or debris on the contacts. Nothing helped.

Kingston technical support was very responsive, in that they swapped my defective reader for a replacement promptly. The replacement also worked, for about 1 week, under the same conditions of use. Then I had the same problems again.

I decided to try one more replacement, which Kingston technical support was glad to provide. This time, because I really just want to access my data, I decided to leave the card in the USB reader. No more swapping in and out to use the SD adapter. Things worked OK for maybe 3 weeks or so. Today the reader has ceased to function yet again.

I am forced to conclude that this USB reader just does not function reliably. If you are looking to have reliable USB access to the data you carry on your microSD/microSDHC cards, I have to advise that you look elsewhere.Buy Kingston USB 2.0 microSD Flash Memory Card Reader FCR-MRB (Black)!

Ectaco jetBook e-Book Reader - Red

I bought this to read current books. It is well built and easy to use - BUT - if you want to read current Authors, it's very difficult to find these books in .txt or the old .pdf format that isn't the new Adobe Digital Ebook!!! Adobe Digital Ebook won't work with the Jetbook.
I also find the screen darker than shown in the picture!! It's more brown.
I ended up getting the Sony PRS 505 and now am very happy!!
For strictly reading Best Sellers and New Released books - this doesn't make it!!!
If you want to read classics (Moby Dick, Huckleberry Finn, etc.) than this will work!!

Ac Charger for PRS505SC and PRS505LC

Though not included with the actual Reader, this charger is extremely useful for a) quick charging, b) recovering from complete battery death and c) charging in situations where there is no computer available.

I bought this charger after noticing that the reader would not charge through a wall plug to USB converter (like the iPhone/iPod and other gadgets use). This seems to be a design flaw of the Reader but not one of the charger. I have been pleased with the performance of the charger and have found that in some cases where I have let the battery die completely in the reader, normal computer USB supply is not enough (or perhaps I wasn't patient enough) to reanimate the device. However, immediately on plugging in the reader charger, the reader rebooted and was charged quite quickly.

I recommend the charger highly but am disappointed that it's an attempt at nickel and diming for accessories by Sony.Buy Ac Charger for PRS505SC and PRS505LC!

MachSpeed Oasis Video Player with MP3, FM Radio, Recorder, Photo Viewer, Ebook Reader and USB Flash Drive

I fell in love with this machine the moment I got it, but it didn't last long. After receiving the player, I charged it, put music, videos, books and more on it and off I went. When the power ran down and needed to be charged a week later, I plugged it in and the screen went white. I called tech support and was told I had damaged the screen somehow. HUH? It worked perfect until the moment I plugged it in. They told me to send it back and I'm waiting to see what happens now.
Other than this I love it. I've read about some people having trouble with the ebook reader, I think I know why, it ONLY reads TEXT files, not lit, pdf, or word file. That's was the confusion for me....this is not a ereader it's a text reader.Buy MachSpeed Oasis Video Player with MP3, FM Radio, Recorder, Photo Viewer, Ebook Reader and USB Flash Drive!

Sony Electronic Book Leather Cover (Black)

Do not buy this cover Sony Electronic Book Leather Cover (Black). The leather part is nice enough but your $30 investment is wasted when the 10cent plastic piece in the middle (that holds the ebook reader in place) snaps off at one end. Mine broke within 60 days and neither Ace, nor Amazon, nor Sony would send me a new plastic piece ("we don't have replacement parts available") nor replace the cover. Save your money...use the cover that comes with the eBook reader. That cover has a metal retention system, not the cheap plastic one that's in this one. And, btw, NEVER ever buy from Ace. Sony Reader Digital Book W Touch Screen

The Sony PRS 700 is an excellent product. I am an avid reader and have had several ereaders. Besides the 700, I own a PRS 505, an Ebookwise 1150, and previous to that, its predecesor which was marketed by RCA. I am an online college student, and much of my research papers are based on professional journals many of which are in PDF format. This device displays PDF's natively without conversion, although reading them is slower. The screen clarity is not as good as on my 505 however, as has been mentioned by previous reviewers, minor adustments or utilizing the light takes care of that easily. The lights are a nice addition, I think. I used a book light for my 505 and it caused a very distracting glare. But, the edge illumination on the 700 does well for me on the first setting. The illumination is not even across the screen which might bother some, but I have no problem with it. I also like the fact that it has such a clean, buisness like appearance. It sports a metal case and few buttons. The navigation conrols it does have are discretely placed along the bottom. If one reads it in the cover like a regular book, and with one hand, the page turn buttons are well placed ergonomically. Speaking of the cover, it is provided with the device. It is black and has a handsome leather appearance. The device latches into it securely, and the cover adheres to the device magnetically. I find the finger swiping works very well. Unfortunately book marking does not work for me useing tapping. I always end up turning the page inadvertantly useing this method. I go to notes in "options" instead to mark the page, but this is no biggy. Useing the lights does consume battery power a little faster, but I merely charge it off the computer while showering and preparing breakfast and that tops it off adequatly. My only serious complaint is it does not have a dictionary. Both my RCA and EBW devices had onboard dictionaries and these were cheap ereaders. It is ironic that something as expensive as the PRS 700, marketed for serious readers, lacks such a basic literary tool. The only one I can find online is the Oxford English dictionary, however it is Mobipocket, and therefore not supported by the Sony ereaders. There are many good ereading devices and all of them have good points. I preferred this one for various reasons, and do not regret my purchase. It is important to review all these fine products thoroughly, but either way, I highly recommend the Sony PRS 700. Buy Sony Reader Digital Book W Touch Screen!

Sony PRS-505 Portable Digital e-Reader System (Silver)

I have had this reader for about a month and it is absolutely terrific. The hundred free classic books deal is a real bargain, although I think that is all over now for future buyers. That said, the book prices are absolutely murderous when compared to Kindle prices. Maybe I wouldn't buy John Wray's The Right Hand of Sleep (Sony - $11.17, Kindle - $7.96) or Theology in Stone: Church Architecture from Byzantium to Berkeley (Sony - $60.75, Kindle - $17.78) or even John Smithin's What is Money? (Sony - $127.50, Kindle - $39.56), but I might buy ten or twelve best sellers a year and they are always 20% or more higher at the Sony store. My advice? Bite the hundred dollar bullet and get the Kindle. After a couple of years you will have the money back in book price savings.Buy Sony PRS-505 Portable Digital e-Reader System (Silver)!

Sony PRS-505/LC Blue Digital Book Reader

This review is geared toward Mac OS X users.

I am running Mac OS X 10.4.11.
I did not use Sony's CD at all prior to connecting my PRS 505 to my laptop.
I plugged in my PRS 505, and it mounted by itself.
I dragged and dropped books (mostly free stuff from project gutenburg etc) with file types txt, html, doc, rtf, pdf, and jpg.
Then I ejected them. Just that simple.
All worked well, the pdfs really slow the reader down, I would not recommend having a lot of pdfs on your reader. The doc files also take some time to load, not as long as the pdfs though.
The jpgs worked well, perfect for manga. (Not as slow as you might think... about the same as doc speed)
The txt, html and rtf file types loaded the fastest.

Next I tried to load with an SDHC card in the reader, and plug both in together. They mounted separately.
You can drag and drop files to each separately while the SDHC card is in the reader.
Don't bother with too large a SDHC card, or the ebook transfers and reading will take waaay too long.

Problems with the two above methods:
1) the neat search features of the PRS 505 (author, title, publisher, etc) don't work well, all you'll see is a file list (which is hardly the end of the world, and IS solveable -- see Calibre info below)
2) when I had files on both my SDHC card AND my Reader, I could not get the reader to list both file locations. I just got the SDHC card listing (as if the Reader itself was empty; it was not). Not sure if this is a glitch or if I'm doing something wrong. Sony customer service is TERRIBLE and I got tired after 37 minutes on hold so I just hung up, will try again some other time. I tried emailing them they referred me to the darn phone number and didn't answer my question so as much as I like the reader I give Sony itself a pass. This is part of why I purchased the reader from Amazon and not the Sony Style store; Amazon has the BEST customer service.

CALIBRE:
This is a program that will make your prs 505 invaluable.
It is a ebook library program, lets you sort your data, add meta tags for author, title, publisher, etc which the reader does a good job of sorting. I WISH the collections feature worked (for sorting series, invaluable) and the Calibre website says it does but I can't get it to work so please put in the comments if you know how.
You MUST get this program if you want proper organization of your ebooks on your reader.
I have not tried any other program, so cannot recommend or compare them.
Oh yeah Calibre also converts txt, doc, html, rtf etc files to lrf (which is the Sony Reader proprietary format)(which is good and speeds up the formatting time and you can read your book faster).

So even though the product specs for the PRS 505 say that it is only for Windows, no worries Mac users, this product will work for you. The only thing you will miss out on is buying books from the Sony Store. But there are lots of free legal copyright lapsed books you can read, so you're not really missing out. And if you're not hung up on the Sony Store, there are other ebook retailers whose products are compatible with this reader.

Buy and enjoy! You won't regret it! If you've ever wished your iPhone had a good eBook reading program, then get this reader ;)

And BTW just buy it with the AC adapter you don't want to plug the reader into the computer all the time to charge it. I bought mine from J&R which has free shipping on the reader and I bought the reader and the ac adapter together which charged me 2.95 shipping which J&R kindly and promptly refunded. So if you can't get the reader from Amazon, I would recommend J&R. I've done business with Databazaar before, and would not recommend them. J&R also has the best return policy for the reader (not that I've used it, but just comparing all the businesses selling the reader).

Good luck!Buy Sony PRS-505/LC Blue Digital Book Reader!
