*The hinge/hook system holds your Kindle firmly in place, and the corner straps hold down the edges to prevent the side-cracking that some users have mentioned in reviews of other covers.

*The inside of the jacket is lined in a gray, suede-like material that is soft and pleasant to the touch. It also has a few pockets in which you can store paper items (like a boarding pass).

My only criticism of the jacket pertains to the corner straps which hold down the right corners of the device, as they occasionally slide off the corners of my Kindle after swimming in the black hole I call my handbag. The hardcover version of this book is beautifully put together, with it's mouse-torn pages and wonderful illustrations. Unfortunately, the story did not live up to it's binding. "Despereaux" follows the lives of a handful of characters who, mostly through no choice of their own, live with unfortunate circumstances. Throughout the story, the characters are beaten down even more, mentally and/or physically. It's not until the last few pages that the author attempts to resolve the issues, but at that point the reader has been bombarded with so much negativity that the point of the story is lost, and it's hard to feel any satisfaction from the ending.

I can understand what the author was trying to do - the whole light verses dark theme - but I feel it was poorly executed. Perhaps she was trying to relate to too many real-life situations her readers might be going through - illness, physical differences, abuse, abandonment, stereotypes, racism, perfidiousness (the author's favorite), etc - but I trust that young readers can empathize and relate without having each situation explicitly represented. Perhaps she could have cut back a few and achieve the light and dark balance she was trying to attain.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not the type of person that wants a candy-coated happy ending in all my stories, in fact I'm a sucker for a good tragedy. I'm not the type of person that thinks we should shield children from the realities of real-life - the unfounded hatred and violence, and unfortunate situations, that occurs. I am, however, a person born with a rare syndrome and have had health challenges my whole life, and also struggled with looking 'different' because of it - I think I know a thing or two about finding light in life. This particular model comes with the cover AND the A/C Adapter - which is why the price is a bit higher, but it is a great option. The 600 comes with a little clutch bag instead of a cover, and most of us have discovered that a cover is necessary. It not only protects the screen, but it is the best way to clip on a light if you are reading in a dark location.

Since the Sony comes with a USB connector that also charges it, some do not feel the A/C adapter is necessary, but it was my first purchase after I bought the Sony! I plug it in at night (just like I do my cell-phone and other necessary items) and it is always fresh to read in the morning. The A/C adapter is also essential when I am traveling, since I do not always have my laptop available to charge it. While the Sony has 7,000 page turns on the battery, I read in large print, meaning I turn the pages quite frequently, and can't go more than 2-3 days without a charge.

If you prefer to purchase a cover and charger separately, there is actually no savings to the package deal. However, if you are purchasing this as a gift, including everything as a package is a very nice idea.

I have been following the e-book readers for some time, and I wanted several things for me to "jump on the bandwagon."

1) I have a number of PDF reference books, so a Reader needs to handle these well. Since my books are text, these reflow well on the Sony.

2) Because I will use (and now am using) the Reader for reference books, it was important that I be able to access my notes directly from my computer to use in other documents. I actually began using the software on my desktop several months before I purchased the 600, and was pleased with its capabilities.

3) I enjoy the free epub books from my library. The Sony accesses these easily. There are also a number of locations besides Sony selling the epub or Adobe digital books (usable by the Sony Touch) giving me more choice in my decision.

4) The Touch handles my regular documents well - as a public speaker, I love having my speeches available to study on the reader, without having to print them out!

But for those looking for the points I already love (thus the 5 stars)
1) I love having the touch turn capability, just a brush of my thumb!
2) I enjoy the sideways and zoom features for PDFs that you want to keep "standard"
3) After only a couple of minutes, I forgot I was even using a reader and I got involved in the book.

*** I live in an isolated area - so neither Whispernet for the Kindle nor the upcoming 3G connection on the more expensive Daily model would be helpful - I'm just as happy to order my books "in advance" and carry them with me.

Some people have mentioned the glare - since my previous reading was on my laptop - this isn't an issue for me. I keep my lighting at my side, and it is not a problem at all. It is more noticeable in a dark room with a single light source. My favorite reading location is outdoors.

Another issue I have encountered isn't with the reader - but with the interaction between Windows and the software. I was given the Ebookman 900 for Christmas, 2008. After 6 months, it quit on me. I emailed Franklin and was informed that Extacto was their distibutor. When I contacted Extacto, I was offered an upgrade to EBM 911 for an additional 85.00 which I paid. I bought this jacket & the M Edge Light for my silver Sony Pocket Reader. It's great fit, sturdy, with good construction. I just sent back my Sony PRS-300RC.

The reader itself works quite well.

But the required software interface, the Sony ebook library, apparently has compatibility issues with Vista.

Intermittently, and finally permanently, the ebook transfer from the library onto my ereader caused a window to pop up saying: "ebook reader has stopped working." I tried removing the hidden/system attributes from my ebooklibrary.exe so it could be added to the DEP exclusions list, but that didn't work. Temporarily turned off my Norton protection, too, but that didn't help, either.

My plan for the future is to wait until these issues are resolved. I must say, I resent being essentially a Beta tester for an ereader.

I'm an engineer using IREX DR 1000 since one month.
I use it for technical articles, reports and books in A4 size PDF formats.

Screen is nice. Large enough for A4 documents, which would be barely readable with the other smaller e-readers.
PDF can be easily viewed with a good the zoom and pan functions.
SD memory is a great PRO, since you have large memories ( I tried up to 8 Mb ) and easily switch between several SD's.
Unfortunately is slow, if you open large scanned files you have to wait seconds every time you switch a page.
Not a big problem while reading, but a nightmare if you're flipping through a book looking for something.
Too bulky for reading novels and battery lasts few hours only.

Conclusions :
- IREX DR 1000 is the only good e-reader for professionals at dec 2009.
- Since I have to buy 10 e-readers for our office, I'll wait two more months to see the new Plastic Logic QUE before buying other 10 IR DR 1000
